Program Background

Philadelphia FIGHT is a comprehensive AIDS service organization providing state of the art culturally conscious HIV primary care, consumer education, advocacy, social services, outreach to youth and adults living with HIV and to those who are at high risk, and access to the most advanced clinical research. Each year, FIGHT reaches over 10,000 individuals through its education and outreach efforts and treats over 1,200 individuals with HIV at the Jonathan Lax Treatment Center. FIGHT's goal is to end the AIDS epidemic within the lifetime of those currently living with HIV.

FIGHT believes that public education is a critical tool to ending the AIDS pandemic, and their education programs include The AIDS Library; Critical Path AIDS Project; Project TEACH (Treatment Education Activists Combating HIV); and the Youth Health Empowerment Project (Y-HEP).

Through their public programming, FIGHT educates people to advocate for further research and better medical treatments, improve the quality-of-life for people living with HIV/AIDS, and prevent further infection.

Current Testing Initiatives

The Counseling and Testing team at Philadelphia FIGHT seeks to reduce HIV acquisition and transmission through up-to-date counseling and testing that helps individuals create personalized risk reduction plans to protect themselves and others from HIV. Additionally, its Counseling and Testing Staff are trained to assist individuals living with HIV and connect them with the medical care and services they need.

During AIDS Education Month, Philadelphia FIGHT hosted 18 one-time testing events throughout the city of Philadelphia in the communities most impacted by the HIV epidemic. The initiative was a huge success, with Philadelphia FIGHT testing 350 individuals during June 2011.

FIGHT has been providing HIV testing services since 2007. The organization tested 1,500 people in 2010, and approximately 5,000 people since beginning the program in 2007. Its linkage to care rate in 2010 was 79%.
